**History:**

Zvezda is a professional hockey team based in Podolsk, Russia. The team was originally part of the Russian Superleague (RSL) before moving to the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) in 2008. Zvezda has won the Gagari Cup, the KHL's highest honor, three times (2010, 2011, and 2016).

The team is owned by Russian oligarch Roman Arkadievich Abramowicz, who also owns the English football clubChelsea. Zvezda has a long-standing rivalry with HC CSKA Moskva, another KHL team.

**Home:**

Zvezda was originally called HC Vityaz Podolsk. The original club was created in 1995 as HC Vityaz Podolsk. The new club was created in 2005 out of the ashes of Vityaz and took over its place in the RSL (Russian Superleague) for the 2005-06 season.

In 2008, Vityaz Podolsk moved to the KHL and was promoted to the Tarasov Division. The team quickly became one of the top teams in the league, winning the Gagari Cup in 2010, 2011, and 2016.
